sorry i don't see your entry.
The local chapter of the BMWCCA that I'm a member of publishes name and location of new members in their monthly newsletter. On the website too... http://www.tarheelbmwcca.org/
My local region of the SCCA publishes the names and hometowns of new members each month. The national SCCA magazine SportsCar, publishes a list of "long-term" members with the number of years (10 years, 25 years, 50 years, etc) each month.
I find it hard to believe people are worried about their privacy when they have a profile on the MCA website. The MCA Book would only be available to members of the MCA; it would be portable to carry in your vehicle. The Gold Wing Road Riders of America (GWRRA) has a book with 75,000 names; some are international. You would be able to choose if you want your contact information in the book. When I joined GWRRA in 2010, I didn't want my information published and missed out on a lot of nice rides or meeting people on trips. Now I have my name and phone number listed and have had fun meeting people passing through. I hope the MCA seriously takes this suggestion and considers it at the next leadership meeting. Perhaps a pole of MCA members is needed to indicate if it would be well received.

It's (from my experience with the subject) not an issue of privacy but instead legal. When stalkers use the published information or when a crime is a result of the publication then there can be legal ramifications on the club if things go to court. I would hope that nothing like that ever happened but I am aware of this happening in related subjects
Not sure if what is popular is always the best course for everything. Plenty of examples of that to go around :)
