Yes, there will be an MCA 'official' pony drive that will originate out west and then go to Norman, OK for the official kick off of the Mustang's 50th birthday celebration. The pony drive will then take I-40 west to Vegas for a leisurely 3 day drive with stop overs in some really great cities. More official information will be forthcoming once all the routes have been finalized, etc. The pony drive's for the 50th (to Charlotte and Vegas) are the only OFFICIAL MCA pony drives.
Check out the website for the Great American Pony Drive. They have a listing for the 50th with tentative drive information. At last check please plan for about two weeks to drive to Las Vegas from Los Angeles.
They are making a tour run through the southwest..taking a week to get to Mustang OK. You then have the party for 3 days in Mustang and then back to Las Vegas via Rte 66. Should be a great 2 week rolling party.
Plans are almost finalized for the MCA Pony Drive for the 50th, but please note that on the route from Norman to Vegas they will not be driving Route 66. The drive will be on I-40 with some planned side runs onto Route 66 and then back onto I-40. There will be three stops in three cities for overnight stays along with some evening events such as group dinners at landmark facilities, cruise in's, Ford dealer sponsored lunches and breakfast's, etc. A lot of this will depend on the weather and of course any traffic related issues, etc.
There will be a pony drive from Norman to Charlotte with planned over nights in 3 cities which also will have night time activities, etc. The route will be along I-40 East and may encompass some off interstate activities IF time, weather and traffic conditions co-operate. The MCA pony drives are designed to keep the distance from city to city below 400 miles a day, along with gas stops, lunches, etc. so timing will be a factor as when the convoys approach the over night cities, local law enforcement will assist in getting the convoys safely into the cluster of host hotels AND the local TV stations would like to see the convoys come in before their 6pm news so they can possibly do a live report.
Lots of great things will be forthcoming so stay tuned for the official announcement.
Can someone post the exact website address? I get over 4 million results when I search for Great American Pony Drive! I cant wait for next years events and don't want to get left out!

We will be headed to Vegas for the50th, but will not join the group in OK. We will be going the weekend before the celebration. Anybody else headed to Vegas through Denver? Pete Peterson Arvada, CO
Just wondering when can we register for the 50th MCA Mustang Anniversary in Charlotte and for Hotels?
I am currently working on the 50th Pony Drive and there is a lot to put together. There will be the group leaving LA, going thru Phoenix, Tucson, Las Cruces, Roswell, Lubbock, Dallas and then to Mustang (Norman), OK. This will be 1 week, stopping at various places for sightseeing, club events & parties, Ford dealers, and time to get off the main road to see the countryside. This is in comparison with MAA, with their run from Sacramento to Chartlotte. MAA will do a 1 week trip, no stopping in Mustang, OK, and their usual 400 mile days. For those with limited time, this might be their alternative, but for those with the 2 weeks, we will have a bit more liesurely run, shorter distances and run together as a group. It is also designed for those with limited time to jump in for as long as time allows and to share the fun with us.
There is also a group starting in Seattle, Boston, & Jacksonville, FL. In addition, there are spurs originating from Sacramento, Dearborn (Ford HQ), & Richmond, that will link up with a main group along the way. The current map and schedules are available at www.ponydrive.us. The American Pony Drive originated in 1989, with 37 cars from Europe, coming to travel the US. The Great American Pony Drive picked up where John Manners left off, in 2004, with the 40th Anniversary. That trip was 9 weeks and covered 15,000 miles. We have a trip in some part of the US & Canada every year since. For anyone that has participated in prior Pony Drives or are a member of clubs we have visited, you already know how much fun they are. The Pony Drive has interacted with more mustang clubs than any other MCA club in history. These clubs have planned many fantsatic events for us and they are the reason for the success of our trips.
In 2004, the GAPD received a charter from MCA as the only Driving Club in the world representing MCA. Our members are from all corners of the world and we look forward to seeing most of them and even more in 2014. For any questions or for information, I can be reached at Organizer1@ponydrive.us
