It's hard to fix something when you don't know how. It's obvious that the dealership is stumped. Their first try failed. No telling what they will try next. The one guy claimed his fix for the problem was a replacement of his instrument panel. Maybe I need a new computer. But I keep telling them that something sounds strange to me about them pulling the tanks and finding the right tank full and the left one empty as it goes counter to the TSB out for the same problem in the GTs and V-6s but they just ignore me. I don't know if they don't know what to say, or they think my comment is too dumb to honor with a reply, or they don't even know the point I'm trying to make. Oh well, I wonder if it is something they did when they installed the upgraded supercharger. And I wonder if they caused the problem if they will admit they caused it.

Cute guinea pig!!! Don't know about pumps. Supposedly the car has one fuel pump, over the left tank. That fuel pump works on both the right and left tank. The way the TSB says it works it when the tanks are full the fuel pump pulls gas out of the right tank first. And when the pump can no longer get gas out of the right tank some sort of action seals off the right tank and the pump then starts to empty the left tank. What the TSB says essentially is sometimes for some reason the right tank is not empted. But it gets sealed off and the pump starts pulling down the left tank. The gas gauge is a combination of the level in the right tank and the level in the left tank. But with the right tank still having gas, at some point the left tank level goes below the right tank level and when that happens the computer knows that something is wrong because in normal operation the left tank should never be less than the right tank so that happening triggers the computer to drop the gauge to empty and drop the miles to go to, in my case 3 miles or supposedly to zero in other cases. And the question I keep asking the dealer is why apparently in my car the left tank seems to get emptied first. Of course I guess if the system worked as designed and the left tank was getting emptied then the system should signal out of gas right away, just as soon as the left tank level dropped below the right tank but obviously that isn't happening. So I don't know what is going on. I was thinking that when the service tech installed the new supercharger which came with a new fuel pump that he somehow installed something backwards. I'm sure the setup was working until I upgraded the supercharger. But the dealer seems sure that the new fuel pump install was not the problem?! And what do I know.

when this started happening, will the car keep on going after showing 3 miles to empty and the fuel gauge showing empty???? if there is gas in the other side tank, will the car keep going until that gas is used up? OR will the car shut off due to the info being feed to the computer?

Just wondering out loud.... got to get my mind off of those shiny tights!!!!!! ;-)

The TSB on this problem is for the GTs and the V-6s, not the Shelbys. But the TSB sounds exactly like the problem that I am having. And according to the TSB the problem get triggered when the computer realizes that the left tank has gone below the level of the right tank. Meaning that the right tank still has fuel supposedly. When that happened to me and I filled the tank it held 9.4 gallons. So out of a supposedly 15 gallon tank it was saying it was empty when it still had 5.6 gallons. But if you assume that the left tank at that point had just gone below the right tank then you could say that both the left and right tank at that point held 2.8 gallons each for a total of 5.6 gallons. And if the system was unable to suck any more gas from the right tank then that is 2.8 gallons that you can't use. So in effect you only have the 2.8 gallons left in the left tank. But that is an assumption. And 2.8 gallons wouldn't take you real far. If you got 15 miles to the gallon then 2.8 gallons would be about 45 miles. But I just don't want to find out the answer to how far I can go by doing it the hard way. And on the Shelby board a guy posted a note to the effect that when the Shelby says it is empty, it is empty as he ran out of gas as the miles to go hit zero. So anyway I just want them to get the thing fixed.
