    1969 Mach I Headers

Have a friend who has a 69 Mach, 351W, and wants to put headers on his car. We know that headers were an "option" in 1969, but what should he put on his car to keep it "original"? He doesn't want to go into Modified as a class. Does anyone know what Ford put on the 69 Mach as that option?

    Any suggestions?

to best of my knowledge cast iron manifolds were the only available exhaust from the factory. how do you 'know' that headers were an option?

This is what the owner tells me, I can only guess that they know their car and the info on it. I haven't found any info to confirm or deny his claim, that's why I'm asking.

No headers were available as a factory option on a H or M coded 69 Mach I. Sure a dealer would put on anything a new owner wanted (if they didn't care about fines for altering emission equipment but doesn't make it "factory" so if entered in a concours class the owner should anticipate deductions for the heads (lack of factory exhaust manifolds) lack of a heat shield, S tube and H pipe modification or style if the rest of the exhaust system is left original.

IMHO this would likely move a car down one award from where it would be without this modification or choice.

    Thanks, Jeff
That's exactly what I need to know. Talked to him and I think he's gonna go ahead and go into the Modified class after he makes the mods he wants to make. This was very helpful You are awesome!!
