I am restoring a 1966 convertable and want to be as correct as possible. I am struggling to find a definitive source for correct factory coatings for various parts. For example, I have been told that the hood latch is chassis black but I believe that the latch portion was bare metal or coated metal. I have the same answers about hood hinges and springs.
Is there anywhere I can get correct information for this restoration?
Thanks Carlite65. I am new to the club and have been looking for MCA rules on the site but find only those relating to scoring ranges, classificaitons, etc with little detail. Where can I find a copy of the MCA rules you referred to?
Hi Paul and welcome to the club! A great source of knowledge is available at
http://concoursmustang.com
http://www.saacforum.com
There are some VERY knowledgable members on those sites. The SAAC forum site is more so for Shelbys but there are some experts on there for ALL mustangs regardless of what type.
Good Luck!

A followup question about the hood latch. As I see, there are three components to the assembly (1), the verticle sheet metal support that bolts to the body (2) the horizontal sheet metal into which the actual latch assembly bolts; this also secures the assembly to the body and (3) the actual latch assembly that includes the springs, latch, etc.
It is clear to me that the actual latch would be phosphate and oil but I am uncertain whether the support pieces (1 and 2) should also be phosphate and oil or semi-gloss black.
Thanks
No longer recommend.
