1965 and Ethanol

Hi All,
Here in England, we have been putting Ethanol into unleaded Gasoline at 5% for about eighteen months, my question is do any of your members run 1965 289 V8 on Gasoline with any Ethanol added, if so I would appreciate some feedback, because at the moment I run on Super unleaded, which doesn't have any percentage of Ethanol, but I am informed that from February 2012 they will be adding it to this too.
Is it likely to cause any harm to anything, Gaskets, seals, Tank mastics etc.

Almost all usa pump gas includes 10% ethanol. been using it in my 66 coupe with no issues

The biggest negative with running ethanol fuel is two things: 1) ethanol destroys rubber from the inside out-- rubber fuel hoses, fuel pump diaphragm etc. 2) problems occur if the car is stored for a few months with ethanol fuel. Buy an additive to add if you store it, but if you drive it weekly, just keep an eye on your rubber fuel lines. It will run fine. Jim

I echo the earlier replies with the following observation:

"Make sure any replacement parts (including gaskets, seals and hoses) used in maintaining your Mustang include consideration of changes in fluids available on the open market."

When I rebuilt the engine in my car (at 250000 mi), I -- 1) installed hardened valve seats and valve to handle unleaded fuels and 2) used premium gaskets and seals to handle modern (ester-based) synthetic oils. Later, when I had the carburetor and fuel pump restored, I asked the restorers to use seals/gaskets that would withstand gasohol and modern oils. I asked the same question of the supplier for my concours fuel hose (assured the underlying hose was gasohol-compatable). Since my fuel tank sender/pickup is original (most of internals are brass), I will not replace them until failure (replaced sending unit gasket last year when I installed the new section of hose connecting fuel tank to the fuel line).

My greatest concern with gasohol is corrosion in the gas tank. I have looked various solutions to the gasohol corrosion problem, but have not found an answer that I am willing to use on my cars.
