1966 mustang

Need some help. I just picked up a 1966 mustang the code on the car is as follows. a6r07c209595 body 65b color v trim 64a date 01f dso 65 no number on axel tranny number was 6 with a o1. the car is all there from front to rear as far as i can tell all numbers match so far. it needs a full resto is this 66 worth putting a full resto on or putting it back to just a driver. ive have never dealt with this old of a mustang before. would love to hear feedback about car. thanks brett

I think that if you look at the data plate a little harder, you'll see that you have a warranty number of 6r07c209595 you can use this link to decode the tag http://www.mustangdecoder.com/decoder.html

This decodes as a San Jose built 66 hardtop with a 289 2V.

thanks for the help i pulled the codes. on thing i dont understand is the tag shows it is a c4 auto car but this car has a 4 speed in it looks factory. the color is amberglow amberglow inter. pony package car sold in oklahoma. is this something that would be a good restore car? thanks Brett

take a good second look at the door tag. sometimes the stamped #'s do not line up with the pre-printed #'s. i have seen them stamped way to the right. you said no number for axle code......it probably is the '6' which is for 2.80 gears. the '01' cannot be. it should be just a single digit. a '1' would be a 3-speed manual trans which could easily have been swapped to a 4-speed. OR it could just be a misstamping. btw the color is 'emberglow'.

Make sure the Warranty Tag on the driver's door matches the car's actual VIN under the hood.

I am restoring a 66 coupe and upgrading it to a GT. I will represent it as a clone GT.
I was going to have the Warranty Tag on the driver's door stamped a GT as I am building it but the car's actual VIN under the hood will be different and show it as it came from the factory. Is this OK

Also, how will I show it at a MCA meet?

just exactly what do you plan to have stamped on the new tag? how it 'shows' will depend on the class entered.
