National Show Registration Fees

You've invested in a car that's worth ....what? .....$20,000?

It costs about $1000-$1200 to attend a national show..(travel fuel, hotels,meals, registration, etc)

This show is, as the one fella put it...."in your backyard"

And you're bellyachin' about $15.....oh wait...it's the PRINCIPLE of $15....

And you don't want to join the MCCNE.....cause you don't like the way they do things...

Have you notice that at the low price shows you get a dash plaque and a very light goodie bag and at the higher price shows you get a free t shirt, heavy goodie bag and nice door prizes? Not always true but generally so. I will complain after the show if I feel the need not before.

First of all my car is appraised for 40K not 20K!

Second, the cost of going to a national show doesn't matter to me as I've spent plenty over the last 25 years. showing my mustang.

It also doesn't matter how close the show is I would still question the difference.

Lastly, No where did I state that I don't want to join MCCNE. In fact I was a member way back in the 80s for about 15 yrs then I rejoined for a year about 5-6 yrs ago. My statement was based on comments made to me by fellow mustang owners I know They feel MCCNE is geared more towards the late model cars and that they don't care about the early cars as much.

To be honest, the reason I'm not a member now is because after 25 yrs of going to shows every weekend plus 3-5 cruise-ins a week I'd rather go for a nice ride with other car owners or relax by the pool in the backyard or maybe take in a really good car show or two.

I have been a member of MCA for many many years and have enjoyed being part of the greatest car club in the world. Through after reading your comments along with Jeff Speegle, & mustangted1963 I'm starting to rethink my future with MCA!!

I know you were a member and on the BOD back in the 80's and rejoined a few years back at the Northampton show. Everyone has a right to their opinions, but MCCNE is geared to all years of Mustangs, always have and always will. The fact is many shows have seen a drop in early cars both locally and nationally. The fact is we have almost fifty years of Mustangs, and by percentage of all Mustangs the early cars are becoming smaller and smaller. This is not due to anything the club is doing but just how it is. We would love to have more early cars, actually more of all years. If you followed the national scene as I do you would understand this. So please do not speculate that MCCNE is geared to newer cars, cause that can't further from the truth. I do have a 66,68,88, and love them all. The VP has a 66,06 and loves them both. The Secretary has 67,71,88 and loves them all, and the Treasurer has a 66.

If you had read my previous post closer you would have see that no where did I make the claim about the club being geared towards newer cars. What I did say was that after 25 yrs of showing every weekend plus cruise-ins that I'm not as interested as I once was. You're right about me being a long time member & formerly on the BOD so when I rejoined several years back I thought it would rekindle my interest, sadly it didn't. I've always felt that the club has done a really good job so please don't make it sound like anything else. I did attend your 1st national show in Sturbridge MA and had a great time but when you had your 2nd show I just didn't feel my car was ready though I still drove an hour up there to check it out. I do agree with you about the decline of older mustangs at shows, my wife & I went to a Shelby/Mustang show last weekend and there were only about 5 Shelbys and probably 15/20 early mustangs the rest were late 80s & up. I too don't know the reason why the earlier mustangs don't come out but I wish they would.

BTW; as for the value of my car, that figure is based on the appraisal I had done around 5 yrs ago. I know the prices have dropped a little but according to the latest guides my car is worth between $26,850 - $47,250 (more towards the higher amount) in it's current condition.

The bottom line is that we need to keep this fun, and enjoy our Mustangs no matter what year they are. We are the luckiest group of car enthusiasts, with Ford continually coming out with every increasing exciting Mustangs.
Lets all hope it never ends.

Just to clarify a few points,

Looking at most shows over the past year and a half with all discounts available the average price is $49.28. The Ocean State show with all discounts is $50. This includes the early bird discounts. Some shows do not have a early bird discount and some shows require pre-registration prior to the show.

Looking at it in that perspective MCCNE is charging approximately the same with discounts figured in. The statement, on there is no cost to the club for the sight because it is at the host hotel is not completely accurate. When the contract was signed with the hotel, we had a very large usage fee in the thousands, for the field if we did not almost fill our room block. Our room block is about 75% of a very large Crown Plaza. Also as we all know security costs, permits and general costs of operation a show in the north east tends to be much more costly. If we did not fill the hotels requirements the show would be a loss to MCCNE and no monies other than our charity drives would of went to the Shriners Burns Hospitals for children. I hope you understand the cost on putting on a show is much more costly then Des Moines or Mustang Oklahoma. In fact the show in New York last year started off before discounts at $75.

I hope you understand MCCNE and MCA are non profit and each year this hard working dedicated volunteers try to do their best to make the shows affordable and fun, without bankrupting the club.

P.S. Nice 65 2+2, think I have seen your car many times in the past, hope to see you again.

I'm driving from Chesapeake, VA for the show in Rhode Island to judge. 540 miles one-way... Regardless of the price of gas, you couldn't keep me away. I find the fee acceptable considering I'm traveling from show to show in the Hampton Roads area entering and judging shows at $20 to $25 each show. Since it such a drive for me, my wife and I have decided to spend an additional 3 days in Newport.

I also wish you would reconsider but I understand your frustration.

Thanks Jim. You're right, we all forget from time to time that this is a hobby and its suppost to be fun. I enjoy seeing any mustang no matter what year it is but I miss all the early ones that use to go to the shows.

Couldn't have said it better! I love the newer mustangs but unfortunately with the expected replacement of both of our daily rides in the near future there isn't enough funds left for a new mustang.

As for attending, if I can get my mustang ready in time I will come down and participate.
