If you look at this forum, you will see that Doug and I agree about almost nothing.....until now. MCA directors,, you can fix this. There is still time to change this terrible decision.

I must register a protest.

The decision to hold two shows for the 50th Anniversary of the Mustang is a huge mistake and a slap in the face to many, many members of the MCA.

How dare you dilute this historic event!

Your actions have said to your dues paying membership that we do not count . . . only what someone in the ivory tower, who has lost touch with the needs, wants and desires of the membership . . . only (his/her) ideas count. Wonder how much ($$) they got for thier vote?

I would like to see the list of how each member of the Board of Directors voted on this "wet dream". I can guarantee that they will not get my vote the next time they run for office. (If I am still a member of this southern, east coast group of idiots)

What will happen is one show will be "the event" and the other show will be the "ugly stepchild". Any guess as to which one is which? My bet is those who choose to go to Vegas will get shortchanged - big time.

How are you going to get all the vendors that would be at one event, in these tough economic times, to staff and display to two different shows?

How are you going to get all the dignitaries who usually attend a MCA "Birthday" show to attend two different shows at the same time? You think getting the VP at one show while the other show gets the president will suffice . . . think again!

How are you going to get all of the MCA Elected officials to attend both events at the same time, so your dues paying membership can interact with each of them? If you think that only sending a few to each show will suffice, think again. Here you go again telling the membership that they do not count . . . you only want thier money!

You have created a logistics nightmare . . . for what purpose?

I can only assume that somewhere, somehow, someone is getting paid under the table to dilute the most historic event in Mustang history.

You think that people only go to a "Birthday Show" for the judging . . . well you're wrong. Some of us go for the event, we go to participate in a drive with other Mustangs, go to see friends from all over the country, and the world, whom we only see once every 5 years. Now if some go to Vegas, and others go to Charolette, we, your dues paying membership, lose out in seeing everyone.

It is still not to late to take your head out of the sand, and revisit this stupid decision. You can do the right thing and vote to change and only do one show or you can continue to travel down the two show road and end up pissing off a mahority of your membership, perhaps looseing members along the way, and when its over have a much weakened, ineffective club of few members.

The choice is in your hands, and the time to act is limited.

Very interesting opinions. I thought the two simultaneous celebrations was a good idea. I would think the participation should be nearly double. Wouldn't it be great if we could link the two together with today's technology? When registering for Mustang Memories I noticed there is a "special" club meeting at Ford Headquarters. I suspect there is something being planned, and these folks have the ability to pull it off. They had 773 cars at their regional show last year and handled it with great precision. Instead of choosing one, we are probably going to choose two! How wonderful.

maybe because 2/3 of member ship wont answer a survey. plus over 90% of membership will never attend an MCA event.

I think the concept of simultaneous events at nearly mirror venues 2,200 miles apart is bold, ambitious and totally unexpected just as the public reaction to the Mustang was back in 1964.

Come on guys give the board of directors some credit, I cannot imagine a scenario where anyone would blindly entertain such an audacious concept without thoughtful consideration of the expense, logistics and work effort involved. These people are not neophytes to what it takes to put on an event of this magnitude. At the very least, their plans need to be heard before being ridiculed.

The Mustang debuted in 1964 at one location. World's Fair. TV coverage was nice (so I hear) but nothing like seeing the real thing.

Yes, it is a bold idea, and the MCA execs are trying to do something different and unexpected for the good of everyone, but much like government health care, anything that generates this much controversy can't be the best idea.

This will end up being remembered as two regional shows. The Shelby show in the west, and the Nascar show in the east. Both will be overshadowed by whatever Ford has planned. Ford marketing is not stupid. They will never let the MCA get the lion's share of the publicity for their car's anniversary. Don't buy into the line that Ford can't plan anything more than 9 months out. They probably signed the contract for the caterer two years ago.

You know, Texas is right in the middle of the country and Austin is beautiful in April. Also the bluebonnets are in full bloom across the state. Oh, and we'll have a brand new Formula One race track and facilities by then.

I understand what your saying and being the president of one of the largest Mustang Clubs once I know we can only do so much to make people respond. But they should at least try for crying out loud....

That being said, the Mustang is bigger than the MCA. There are many very disappointed with the MCA and for many reasons.

If this is MCA's answer then so be it but I know Ford will not let the 50th anniversary of its cherished Mustang to be anything but, well, perfect.

Ford did their 100 Celebration in June at world headquarters, I believe they will do the same so that families can attend when folks are out of school.

I have been a member for a long time 45314 but when I re upped my membership last time I got 2 issues of the Times then nothing. It all stopped, e mailed nothing....
