i have often wondered who represents those mca members who do not belong to a regional group for whatever reasons. are they not 'left out'?

Understood. However, they are not comprehensive. Motions are listed as "passed" or "failed" with no accounting as to how each Board member voted. Without that data, it's impossible to figure out which board members represent an individual member's views and interests.

I also belong to another club, the Sports Car Club of America. Here is an example of a motion recorded in their Board meeting minutes:
MOTION: to approve STR as National Championship class at 2011 Solo National Championships if they meet or exceed the total number of drivers that competed in 2010 effective immediately. Walsh/Jones.
In Favor: Merideth, Jones, Lybarger, Butler, Kephart, Walsh, Lewis, Gordy, Noble.
Opposed: Wannarka, Langlotz, Creighton and Patullo.
    PASSED.

If other clubs can provide comprehensive meeting minutes to their members, then why can't MCA do it?

    Unhappy 50th Anniversary

    Hi All,

I'm a new member from Australia.

There will be many Australians coming to the US for the 50th Anniversary of the Mustang. Lots of us could not attend the 45th or earlier events but people who did said the Mustangs Across America event was the best they had ever attended. My wife and I have been planning our retirement trip to the USA specifically around that event and attending the 50th Anniversary bash for 4 years. Now it's cancelled! We had hoped to meet many Mustang owners during the event and enjoy the trip across the US from West to East and later return via Route 66. We were planning to come in a big group of Aussies to join the fun.
It's very disappointing that the event has been split and MAA is not going to happen.

    Cheers,
    Warwick

Warwick--keep planning. It might not be an "official" MAA run but there will be a West-East run starting in California. a large group of MAA alumni will see to it.

I am not a member of a regional group. The closest is about two hours away. Why doesn't the club post minutes and who voted for and against motions?
I am an elected official. You better believe we make all that available.

I just found this thread, thus, I just voted. I can also tell you that I have been a member for many, many years but only recently began using the website. So, many members may not have a clue as to what is here.

I might consider running for an office, if I knew in advance where meetings are to be held and when. I suspect that a very low percentage of members actually vote for officers.
I would hope the board would be open to any and all suggestions. Those who are upset with the two show idea have a right to those opinions. Officers should respect that. This club belongs to all of its members.
I also see no reason why there can't be some board meetings online. This would allow every member a chance to be an office and not just those with the time and money.
Face-to-face is better, but that limits who can be involved.

Well said sir.. Items this big need to be seen and heard by the members prior to a board vote so they can voice their opinions.

Welcome! I was at the Ford Centennial and stayed at the hotel where the Aussie Fords were staying, they were the best! They shipped all the Falcons, mad max interceptors over... IT WAS SO COOL!

This is why we need one show, one place for all of us to be TOGETHER!

They may not make the popular decision every time but they all try to do their best for the club AND its members. I for one like the 2 show plan, though maybe having it on different weekends would be better. Living in New England would make it tough to go to a show in the middle of the country or on the west coast.

As for you club's plans to quit M.C.A. when your membership expires, if you're that unhappy then the childish thing to do is quit. If you really want to be an adult about this then get involved and run for office in M.C.A.!! Being a former B.O.D. of the Mustang Car Club of New England and many local/regional car shows I have found that there are a lot of belly-achers but not many who want to get involved.
Sorry I haven't been back to the forum in awhile.

I'm a current BOD member of the National Capital Region Mustang Club, among others, and I fully understand the effort, energy and scarifice that is necessary to keep these clubs alive. The reason our club has not left the MCA is that some of us believe its easier to change the system from the inside rather than the outside....we've even suggested to some of our more vocal members that they consider a run for the MCA board so they can have a direct voice. If you re-read my post you'll note that I said we discussed leaving MCA...not that we decided to leave.

We're not going to take our ball and go home. We have written letters to the MCA Board stating our case, we have posted our concerns on this forum, and talked with national officers about our issues. Bottom line is, as individuals, we don't know what value we get from being MCA members and some of us are only members because of our clubs MCA affiliation and the MCA requirement that all regional club officers be MCA members . In the future (when I'm no longer a NCRMC Board member) and I have to write a check to MCA for dues, I will have to make a value judgement as to whether I get any value (beyond a magazine) from MCA. If I had to make that decision today, I would likely not renew as I do not approve of the direction the club is going.

I personally am offended by your mischaracterization of me as a "belly-acher" and as someone who is not involved. I can assure you that the energy and effort put forth by the NCRMC members and officers posting on this forum rivals the energy and effort of those at the MCA...and as someone that spent a good bit of the last two years of his life working on a Grand National show for the MCA, I know this to be the case. Go ahead...call those who disagree with you or the board Belly-achers...sitting quietly by and accepting something that you believe is wrong, is...unforgivable.

The adult/professional way to voice yourself would be to contact the board member(s) via email or by phone and discuss it one on one not on a public forum.

I'll agree with you that it is expensive to be on the B.O.D. with all the travel expenses but it is what it is so you either pony up and "pay to help or you try and work in a constructive way with the ones who do pay to help run this great club.
Ok, I should have read on further....
    1. First, I did not, and do not resort to name calling or personal attacks.
    2. I don't think the statement "need to wake up" was either out of line or unnecessary in the context of this thread. I did not realize that JimS was board member, but it wouldn't have changed my post much if I had know. In fact I might have asked a few more probing questions about some of the decisions had I known. The fact he had to ask what rule change we were talking about kind of makes my point, but I give him credit for asking.
    3. The president of our club had his posts removed from the regional director forum when he challenged the board on their decision to change the National show rules - which ignited a firestorm. He provided the leadership of our club copies of those posts before they were removed. That is a FACT, not an accusation.

For the record, I have no ill will for any of the board members and I appreciate their efforts.

Lane, I plan on attending the Regional Directors meeting in Oct and expect the 50th locations to come up as a major topic. I want to be able to address this subject with data one way or the other so could you post a poll asking “if there was a change to only one show would you still attend regardless of the location”?
