Hi Mark,
I am a 67-69 Gold car judge and do not belive that there were any 68 fastbacks with vinyl roofs. I would have to agree that it was a dealer or after market kit. I think I may have seen your car in Youngstown. Marty
i have a vinyl roof on my 68 fast back and can't find any information on how the roof came about.Does anybody in the MCA know how some of the fastbacks received vinyl roofs.I had the car at the Youngstown Ohio show some years back and the judges questioned the roof and I had no background on how the roof came about. I have been told that it was a dealer add on. Has there ever been a story in the Mustang Times on Vinyl roofed fastbacks. whoever installed the roof did a very profesional job and the car looks good with it.
Thanks, Mark DeBiak Bridgman,Mi

It was a dealer thing and few dealers even offered it. The greatest number of fastbacks with vinyl tops I've seen were concentrated in California as there was a guys who's business was to travel between dealerships and install them. Seen maybe a little more than sixteen 67-71's over the years with this "option"
Where was your car sold ?
Thanks Marty for the reply, I have owned the car since 1984 and 2nd owner.i had the marti report ran and have only seen one other car 1970 fastback with a vinyl roof here in Michigan also he did not know how the roof came about. I hope to be at Indy next summer with the car.
I am looking forward to see you there. Your car is one of very few. Marty
