    Monroe Handler enters club

    Hello.

I'm a thirty year Mustang fan, finally joined the club tonight. The closest "local" MCA clubs are two hours plus away North of me (Duluth, MN) and 2 hours South (Madison, WI), I guess that's why I never joined before. I've had numerous Mustangs over the years, I currently own two. I have a highly modified '82 GT which was the very first car I owned, I bought it in High School in 1985. The other I just picked up this summer, it's one of the original seven Monroe Handler Mustangs (one of the six glass cars). There are only 825 miles on it, and it has never been plated.

Hi Mike and welcome. Great looking ride! I was showing on the International Show Car Association circuit back in the late 70's. Several of the Monroe Handlers (I think 5) were given away to each of the division winners of the ISCA one season. There were 5 divisions at that time. Do you know the history of your car?
    Congrats on the new addition.

    Monroe Handler

I have some history, but would love to know more. I know there was one steel bodied car made, then six glass replica's were made. Rumor has it a wealthy southern politician had an 8th car made for his son. I thought all six of the glass cars were given away after the first year of touring the country, but I could be wrong.

Anyone else have any documented information? I've got a few Mustang books but they all have a little different story and they are vague. Most of the infomation on the Handlers are just in the captions by the pictures in all of the books I have.

    Welcome to the club!

Phil Schmidt is a Monroe Handler Owner I believe? and he has moved from Phenix, Alabama to around your area. He has the Mustang II Specialty Shop.Gary Baum, Bill Madox & Tom Podemski are a wealth of Knowledge on the Mustang II's, Terry& Mona Burgess & Tony Hall( forgotten pony)are out on the west coast and have helped me out here recently on my Concours Mustang II project.
I hope to get the biggest gathering of Mustang II's (since Baber a few years ago) at the Indy National events next year!
I will get with Patsy Brown and see your car is in an unrestored class, if you bring it to a National in 2013?
    Cheers,

    Thanks

Thanks for names. I have talked with Phil and Tony on the car. I happened to meet Gary last summer at a Mustang Rally in Sturgis, SD. I was going to buy a Marti report on it but I don't know that I'd learn anything since the car has never been plated.

I may try get my car to the show you're talking about but I'll need more info.

    Mike
