This is in comparison with MAA, with their run from Sacramento to Chartlotte. MAA will do a 1 week trip, no stopping in Mustang, OK, and their usual 400 mile days. For those with limited time, this might be their alternative,

Sorry Doug- I did forget Sam sent me a note about that. Regardless, the 2 groups will be following almost the same route from LA to Las Cruces. The clubs along the way are planning events for us and the Pony Drive will also do a sightseeing trip from Phoenix to Tucson, getting to see some of the mountains and once in Tucson, thet will tour the Air Force Boneyard at Davis-Monthan AFB. This is the world's 3rd largest Air Force and they are "mothballed". On the way to Phoenix, the LA group leader suggested stopping at the George Patton Museum and the West Coast Vietnam Veteran's Wall. As we get closer, more stops and events will be added to our schedule. There's a lot to see and do when you cross the US and we will have the time to stop and see a lot of it. Last time we stopped in Lubbock, the club planned a dinner at the Buddy Holly Museum and even had the real Peggy Sue come and meet everyone!

And the daily mileage is about 350 or LESS for MAA....... LA to Charlotte in 7 days with Mustangs Across America-MAA. About 15 days with the Great American Pony Drive...let your vacation time ability and wallet be your your guide-both are great groups.

MAA has existed since 1994 with the very first cross country run to the 30th party and has been highly involved with MCA since then including the 40th and 45th parties.


MAA's run to the 40th party was documented on the Travel Channel in a TV show entitled Kings of the Road.


And in bringing MAA to the MCA 50th Party in Charalotte MAA made sure to avoid route conflict, discussing the matter with Ron Bramlett-head of the 50th anniversary- to insure it was about route/time decisions for MCA members NOT. It is not about groups bashing each other over silly claims of superiority that do not exist.


MCA in their OFFICIAL publications have always noted Mustangs Across America, Mustangs in Motion and The Great American Pony Drive.

It must also be mentioned that the Great American Pony Drive west coast leader is a diehard Mustangs Across America member who has sadly (his term) taken a leave from MAA to lend his MAA large group experience to The Great American Pony Drive for the 50th run from LA to Mustang OK to insure MCA members are well served by both groups.

It is all good for the hobby. NONE is better then the other...each is just different.

Pony Drive should promote the organization and drive with its plans--not bashing or attempting to put down other organizations.

Doug- Never has the Pony Drive ever disparaged Sam & MAA. Just having another driving club enhances everyone's enjoyment of the Mustang. Quite a few PD members are also MAA members and if I had ever had a chance to join any MAA event, I would have gladly done so. In the early days, Sam was a big help when I was planning the 2004 trip. When I had questions, Sam was always available to help. I also tried to keep Mustangs in Motion afloat, but didn't have much success. We do have differing philosphies about our trips, but neither has a better one, just gives people the options rather than sitting out an event. You're also right about this time being more about the budget. 1 week vs 2 weeks can impact the budget for quite a few. Those who do not want to miss such an historic event now have a serious option of still going and having fun. That's what the bottom line is for either group.
Having an MAA member (who is also a PD member), that understands a driving event, assisting us with ours, is just an added bonus. He's already suggested a few side trips along the way!
The only regret I've had was not being able to merge the 2 groups when we entered Nashville. Can you imagine the impact of 800+ cars coming all at once?
