Need to get some questions answered on my quest to restore my mustang. First, painting the undercarriage,I have MCA restoration guide. The underside is in primer only? Some overspray and sound deadening? The cut off between black in engine bay and undercarriage? Anyone have pictures of concours resto undercarriage?
Also, its a convertable w/ a 428. Q code with hood for R code. Could this be factory? All looks original.
Lastly, structural support in rear axel tunnel. Assumed for torque created by big block combined with a convertable. These supports go from frame rail to frame rail in trunk and undercar. Thanks,Jeff

Thanks Fred, You can see I'm new. Was going to convert this to Shelby, but to rare. Have restored cars before but not to the extent I think I'm headed on this one. New territory. I'm sure more questions. Jeff
Gosh, Jeff, your description has got me drooling all over my keyboard!
How about posting a few pics of your 69!?!?!??!!!
2007 Grabber Orange Pony Package Convertableand a 2009 Grabber Orange 45th Anniversary V6 coupe.
Its all in pieces now. On a rotisiere in my garage. Bought several cars in my life, burned most of the time. My own stupidity. Wasn't looking for this car, it came to me. 69000 miles. Bet my life original from reciepts that came with it. Got Marti report. 1 of 9. 1969 mustang GT conv 428 Cobra Jet 4 Speed. All there Matching #s. Have to admit, even though 4th restoration, little nervous about getting it right. Merry Christmas, Jeff PS not much of a photographer. Thought about this after I started disassembly. Already my first mistake. Have taken plenty of disassembly.
Hey Jeff, If you can find the Mustang Monthly June 1997 issue, there is a superb article of Bob Perkins Boss 302. Most 69-70 undercarriages, whether it be a Mach 1,boss,etc, where basically the same. I know that they are some differences from plant to plant, but, this issue has some superb color photography and descriptions at each photo and also a starting place for you. You can start with ebay to find back issues of Mustang Monthly, I have found ALOT of back issues that way.
Also, I have a back issue of Fabulous Mustangs and Exotic Fords(March 1990) that has an article of the same Boss 302 of Bob Perkins'. This issue may be a little hard to find since they were discontinued about 15 years ago.
And, as stated in this thread, concours mustang forum is a great place for indepth info. By the way, Bob Perkins shows up on concours Mustang forum on occasion to answer questions. Feel free to look at my 69 Mach 1 under "My Garage" of my profile ....Hope this helps.

Almost everything your asking about is dependent on when and where your car was assembled If you can provide those we can provide better and more correct responses. For example if you have a San Jose built M code you don't want to be looking at details of a Deaborn built Boss or even a 70 built anywhere - Will just confuse you
As for the Q code with a shaker it was likely IMHO added - you can confirm how it was delivered by contacting Kevin Marti and getting a report on the car if you provide the VIN and a few dollars
Can't recall of any additonal support in the rear axle tunnel there are some added support to the rear frame rails on a CJ - and if its a 4 speed you have the rear shock mount for the one staggered shock but not sure if I would include that as structural support

Hey Jeff, give Bob a call, he's the expert at 60-70 undercarriages. I've called him more than once over the past 18 years for help with my undercarriage. He was more than willing to help me. If you need his number, let me know, and I'll PM it to you. Then they won't be any confusion
