    1970 mach 1

I have a 1970 mach 1 that has the 351 emblem on the hood scoop and not the 351 on the hood stripe. I have seen 1970 mach 1's both ways is the 351 emblem on the hood scoop correct for that year? Thanks in advance for the answer. RICK

Is it a shaker on non-shaker?

Not a definitive answer to your question, but From "Original Mustang, 1967-70, The Restorers Guide, discussing the '70 Mach 1 - "A revised hood treatment featured a wide paint stripe down the center of the hood, either in a low gloss black or white, and a thinner tape stripe surrounded the large stripe. The engine size was noted on each side of the standard nonfunctional hood scoop." A photo (attached), with a functional shaker scoop, does not have the engine emblem on the shaker.

I've looked at other vintage mustang forums and photos from past Mustang Monthly and other magazines, and I would think you'd have the 351 in the stripes and not the "shaker hood". Or, if it's a non-shaker, the 351 would be on the hood scoop or the stripe, but, I'm thinking it wouldn't be both, I've seen different variations......Anyone care to chime in?

By the way davecc1, nice photo of the hood and scoop.

Thanks for the reply, it's a non shaker. Like I stated before I've seen them both ways on the 1970's, it was made in New Jersey in April was that a determining factor?

Most pictures I have seen on the web has been that the 351 was in the stripe and not the hood scoop on a non functioning hood scoop for 1970, but, anything could have happened at the assembly plant at that time.....I've seen alot of oddities since I've been around this Mustang hobby over 24 years.

I see you are a MCA certified judge, would you deduct points for the 351 emblem on the hood scoop (the 351 emblem that are 1969 hood scoops) on a 1970 mach1?

Probably not. Some judges might though if the Mustang is a concours class Mustang..If, in fact, the judge knew it was a 1969 351 emblem on a 1970 Mustang, they might be maybe 1 point deduction, but, I probably wouldn't count off a point.

The non-shaker would have the 351 or 428 for 1970?
