Team owner Dean Martin earned his first Mustang GT4 IMSA win as a driver at the Continental Tire 120 at Watkins Glen International.

Martin and co-driver Jack Roush Jr. drove to KohR Motorsports’ second win of the Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge season after the team earned the Mustang GT4’s first win at Sebring just one race after its debut.

Wild weather caused multiple yellows and even a red flag, when a deluge of rain stranded cars still on slick tires on the track with pit lane closed. Through it all, heads-up driving by Martin and Roush kept the No. 59 NanoProMT/Roush Performance Ford Mustang GT4 in contention after qualifying for the race p2 Friday.

“Starting the race, I just tried to put the car in as good as position as I could, not take crazy risks,” Roush said. “Me and the No. 76 car just seemed to break away from the field. I could gain a little, then he’d gain a little bit. I thought we were going to be in a really good position. We came in for rain tires and the red flag came out. That hurt our advantage and I didn’t expect we’d do too well after that, but I have to hand it to Dean. He did an awesome job. I can’t be more proud of Dean and our whole team.”

The win was Roush’s 11th in the series and Martin’s sixth. Martin battled to the finish.

“The Mustang was just rock solid today,” Martin said. “The balance was just perfect. The aero balance was great. The suspension was fantastic. I can’t say enough about the car.”
